Thanks for the post. Actually I was looking for such a service only wherein proper technical details will also be mentioned. It would be more helpful if you can explain the difference between normal engines and K-series engine’s valve and piston works. Looking for a revert back.

I have a Freelander 1.8 litre 1800 , petrol 4 cylinder. I need a reconditioned engine. I live in Lusaka, Zambia. What would it cost? Do you also install the engine or do I have to find someone local to do it?
Hi Justin,
Thank you for your enquiry.
A reconditioned engine for your Freelander, including non-return surcharge (it is cheaper to pay this than to ship your engine back to us) is £1,495.
The shipping options and costs to Lusaka are:
By air to Lusaka airport: £545
By sea to Lusaka port: £495
By courier to your door: £745
We can install your engine but it would be very expensive as the price would need to cover our flights, accommodation and time as we are coming from the UK. It would be much cheaper for you to find somebody local. We are available by email and telephone if your fitters have any problems or questions.
You may wish to take a look at our primary website http://www.freelanderspecialist.com.

Hi Keiran,

Hi there. I have a 1974 mg midget. Wondered if you would be able to swap out my current engine for a k-series. I understand it’s not a straight forward swap. If this is possible could you give me an idea on cost?
Best
Tim
Hi Tim,
Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately this is not something we would do as it is a very time consuming job. The best people to speak to would be classic car restorers.

Sue
Hi,

I would like to rebuild it but i need to keep the SS camshaft and the specific sump.
Is it possible ?

Hi Cyril,
Provided the camshaft does not need timing in rebuilding it would not be a problem.

Hello
Do you recondition KV6 engines. I have a MG ZT190, 2500cc Petrol, Manual that requires attention further to cambelt failure at the beginning of the year. I have stripped the engine and had the heads rebuilt with new all new vales, liners etc, rebuilt the engine with new parts wherever required upon assembly and she ran beautifully for nearly 1k miles. The ZT then lost compression in the lower end and is smoking like a Victorian chimney. I assume it was down to the imbalance of old and new. I can strip the engine and provide the bottom end for refurbishing. Is this something you are able to undertake? Or would you require the full engine? Many thanks.
Kevin
Hello Kevin,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Yes, we recondition the KV6 engines. Certainly we can recondition just the bottom end – please be aware that this can cause difficulties if there are any warranty issues as we cannot cover damage which is caused by an issue with heads, hence we do tend to prefer to deal with the whole engine then it is clear where the responsibility lies.
All the best,
Sue

I live in Vancouver, Canada. Could you let me know the cost of replacing my Lotus Elise Series 1 engine, 1.8 K-series, should you have one available. I would love to fit the VVC option (or even the Sport 190 option if possible). I have sent you an email as well. Thank you.
Good afternoon Norbert and Sue
I hope this email finds you well
I’ve obtained your contact details for your web page
I’ve inherited a GTM k3 from my dad. He built the car in the lat 90’s but being in his mid 80s he’s unable to get in the car. To be honest he enjoyed building it rather then driving it and the car only covered 4000 in nearly 20 years.
I collected the car on November it had a mot and full service, all belts and the water pump was changed along with a full brake overhaul. The car ran well but then in early February started to smoke. I took it to the local garage who said it would more than likely be the head gasket. The head was removed, pressure tested and skimmed. I was told that the other key areas were within accepted tolerances, new uprated gaskets were fitted along with a new set of engine bolts. Once the work was done the car only ran for around 20 mins before smoking again. The garage said they had done all they could and would need a k series specialist to look at the engine.
Can you repair or replace the engine? I live in Sheffield (S7 2DS) so would need to get the car to you somehow. I’m told via the owners club the engine is very easy to remove and my dad assures me he took the the engine out on a couple of occasions around 15 years ago.
What I’m after is a good engine that suits the car and will be fast and reliable! My dad isn’t in the best of health and I want to get the car sorted and drive it back uo to Cumbria and take him out in it for the day by the early summer
I’ve attached a couple of photographs which hopefully give a better understanding of the type of engine. I was told it is a 93 model out of a rover metro/100 gti.
If this is something your able to do can you give me an estimate of costs please ans email that to me
My telephone number for any questions is 07900137472
I’ll send you some pictures via a separate email.
With best wishes
Richard
Good Afternoon Richard,
Thank you for your enquiry, the car looks amazing.
We will send you an email with a quotation for rebuilding your engine, if you have any further questions once you receive this please let us know.
